“It feels very dark in the valley”

One dear friend responded to yesterday’s post with the words:

“It feels very dark in the valley”.

In his first letter to Timothy, Paul URGES thatsupplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions.” At this time of crisis we need to take this even more seriously than usual.

So I’ve just made my list

It contains the names of

  • The Queen
  • The Prime Minister Boris Johnson
  • The Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon
  • Our local MP Ian Murray
It also contains the names of:
  • Two dear friends and a close relative who are hospital doctors.
  • Two dear friends who are GP’s.
  • An uncle who is a critical care nurse.
  • Family members of colleagues who work in midwifery and the ambulance service.
  • The GP’s who work at our local surgery.
These people on the front line of this crisis need our prayers. They need our prayers NOW as they prepare themselves. Other personal messages from friends in medical professions say:

They are talking about psychological resources/packs for junior doctors during this but these things will prove insufficient”

“We are in the calm before the storm”

“I’m in the unknown phase, not knowing what I will be doing next... as a frontline person I may end up with it”

They are preparing themselves to work. We must prepare ourselves to pray.

Have you made your list?

Why don’t you take a few minutes to list by your local and national leaders, and all your friends and family who work in the medical and services and commit to praying for them  by name every day until this situation passes? The government have confined us to our homes to stop the spread of this virus; but the Lord has confined us to our homes so that we have more time to pray. They may be too busy to reply but sending an occasional text with a bible verse or just to say you are praying for them will mean a lot.

I tried to draft a shortlist of those especially requiring urgent prayer. It rapidly became a very long list. I urge everyone to do this!
