Who to Save?

What a horrible decision to have to make! There are two sick people to every bed. Which one receives the treatment they need? Doctors are trying to prepare themselves anticipating that this situation could come up again and again.

Just before non-essential businesses were asked to close, a man in his 60’s collapsed at my local gym. Although he revived a bit with some rest and a sugar drink, he also turned that disturbing grey colour that rings alarm bells: 'heart attack?!' Of course we called for an ambulance, the normal response in such a situation - but no ambulance was available! They were already under such demand that they could only respond to absolute bona fide emergencies.

One day Jesus was walking through a town. A blind man called Bartimaeus started shouting, trying to get Jesus’ attention over the noise of the crowds. The people told him to be quiet - “He’s too busy for you!” - but Jesus is never too busy. He stopped and called him over. In a miracle of great power and mercy Jesus healed the man’s eyes. Bartimaeus could see!

On another occasion some mothers brought their babies to Jesus so He could lay His hands on them and bless them. The disciples thought that Jesus was too busy. This actually made Jesus angry and he rebuked them strongly. Jesus said “Let the little children come to me”, took the infants in His arms, and blessed them. He was never too busy for people then. And He is never too busy to hear our prayers now.

Pray for the doctors and emergency service personnel who you know as they may have to make very difficult decisions. The weight of these decisions is enormous. They need great wisdom and the grace and peace of God to settle their minds when they start to wonder ‘did I do the right thing?’

But praise God that His resources are never limited. If 2 people - or 10,000 people - call to Him at the same time He does not have to choose between them: He is able to respond to them all simultaneously and save every one of them.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son,
that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
WHOEVER BELIEVES! What a promise!

In Acts 2 you can read how Peter preached about Jesus as the Saviour for sinners. The people who heard his sermon

...were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.”

On that day, 3,000 people heard God’s call and cried out to Him simultaneously and He saved them all! He is never too busy to hear a genuine heart-cry for mercy. Have you heard His call? Cry out to Him - He will listen.

  1. If 2 people - or 10,000 people - call to Him at the same time ... no, the figure isn't 2, nor 10K - more like millions. But his resources are infinite.
